The Quick Sip On Australia

  • Australia is the world's fourth largest producer of wines ranking only behind Italy, France and Spain in terms of volumes exported. Canada is Australia's third largest export market. Ontario alone represents over 42 per cent of exports equal to 1.2 million cases of Canada's 2.7 million imported cases of Aussie wine.
  • In 2001, Australians consumed 20.6 litres of wine per capital where Canadians drank only 12.4 litres per capita of wine, so we have some (pleasurable) catching up to do!

The Quick Sip On Austria

Chile
The Quick Sip On Chile

  • Though vines have been cultivated in Chile since the mid 1500s, it was not until the 1990s that Chile became recognized as a country with enormous potential for quality wines.
  • Today, domestic and foreign investment in Chile's wine industry has been enormous and the results show. Classic grape varieties combined with a complete absence of phylloxera (a vine killing insect) and an ideal combination of climate and soil has allowed for the production of a range of top-quality, exceptionally priced wines.

Italy
The Quick Sip On Italy

  • · In a nation of countless appellations, Abruzzi offers wine drinkers rare and refreshing simplicity. There are only two DOCs and precious few unclassified wines of note in a region that is two-thirds mountains and one-third hills with highly favourable natural conditions for grapevines. Growers favour the predominant Montepulciano and Trebbiano grapes, the source of their two regional DOCs.
  • Italy's contribution to the wine world spans every colour and style and range from superb "everyday" table wines to some of the most sought-after global vinous superstars. Generally speaking, Italian wines are designed with food in mind and pair well with a wide variety of dishes.

France
The Quick Sip On France

  • It was in France that the fundamental concept of terroir, which is the idea that the site determines the quality of the wine flourished. Traditionally the French believe that nature and geography make the wine; there is no French word for winemaker but rather "vigneron" which means grape grower.
  • The Loire valley is one of the largest and most diverse wine regions in France with over 185,000 acres making the region about two thirds the size of Bordeaux. The leading white grapes of the region include Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc; both are truly stunning and set the standard on the world stage.

Greece
The Quick Sip On Greece

  • Few countries can trace their association with the fruit of the vine further back than the Mediterranean seafaring nation of Greece. The vine accompanied Greek sailors on their many voyages and subsequently set down roots in Italy and other areas throughout Europe. There are more than 300 indigenous grape varieties grown on mainland Greece and surrounding islands and, as the country receives long overdue international oenophillic attention, classic grape varieties from around the world are being planted with increasing frequency.
