Leese-Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

History

The wines of Leese-Fitch, are wines that celebrate the deep heritage of California embodied in the iconic Leese-Fitch Adobe built in the 1830s and still at home in the historic town of Sonoma, California today. More than simple wines from California, these wines classically represent each varietal from which they are made. Truly a representation of everything California, Leese-Fitch was born in the town of Sonoma. The state of California was also born in this now quiet, rural town. Before the glitz of Hollywood, prior to the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge and the innovation of Silicon Valley – in California there was the town of Sonoma.

The Wine

A 2013 growing season with long hang time provided us with perfectly ripe, small Cabernet berries for optimum extraction. The Cabernet legs for this blend have great fruit flavors and wonderfully ripe tannins, power and grace. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Lodi, Clarksburg, and Paso Robles. Syrah from Mendocino adds peppery nuances and a touch of gamey, blue fruit. Grenache, Carignane, and Barbera from Lodi add red fruit and hints of spice. Merlot and Cab Franc from Paso Robles add some additional structure and darker fruit notes. Old vine Petite Sirah from the Alexander Valley adds depth on the finish of this wine.

Tasting Notes

This Cabernet Sauvignon is dark purple with exotic nuances on the nose. Brambly blackberries, Tahitian vanilla, dark cherry, mulling spices, and toasted cedar with hints of sweet leather, clove-studded orange peel, and white pepper swirl throughout the aroma. Flavors start with Dutch cocoa, black cherry jubilee, pomegranate molasses, black currants, and finish with flecks of thyme, blackberry preserves, and toasty American oak notes of caramel. This wine would pair wonderfully with a number of dinner options: Salisbury steak with a baked potato, mushroom chicken casserole with green beans topped with toasted almonds, sausage lovers pizza, or your favorite lasagna.
