La Ferme du Mont Côtes Jugunda Gigondas 2015
The wine is vinified at the estate, and the grapes are harvested manually, de-stemmed and put into tanks with light sulphur doses. Fermentation on the skin (3 to 5 weeks) at 23°C, with soft extractions and a regular work of the lees. After a pneumatic pressure, blending of free run wine and press wine. Matured 18 months, a small percentage of the wine in oak barrel and the rest is matured in a tank. The wine is natural and unfiltered.
The finest vintage to date, the 2015 Gigondas Cotes Jugunda (80% Grenache and 20% Syrah aged in concrete and second fill barrels) offers medium to full-bodied richness, ripe tannin and terrific purity in its graphite, black cherry, garrigue and chocolaty aromas and flavors. It excels on its balance and length. Score – 90-92. (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Dec. 30, 2016)
The star winemaker of La Ferme du Mont, Stephane Vedeau, is a favourite of heavyweight American critic Robert Parker. La Ferme du Mont produces a range of reds made from the traditional Rhone blend of Grenache and Syrah. Gigondas is a premium appellation within the Rhone. The vineyard contains two distinct soil types: broken limestone and a bed of red clay and Jurassic limestone.
